Program: New Life Program (NLP)
The Women for Sobriety (WFS) New Life Program is a secular recovery program developed to support all women seeking help for problematic substance use. It was founded on the belief that women have unique challenges in overcoming addiction. The philosophy of the New Life Program is that our thoughts precede our actions. If our thoughts are positive, so are our actions. We believe we have the power to change our way of thinking. We take responsibility for ourselves and our choices. The 13 Acceptance Statements form the foundation of the New Life Program and help to guide our beliefs and actions.
The New Life Program offers a variety of recovery tools, meetings and peer support to guide women in developing coping skills which focus on emotional growth, spiritual growth, self-esteem and a healthy lifestyle. Sobriety is more than abstinence from a substance. It is a time for reflection, learning and self-discovery. By knowing ourselves better, we can overcome addiction.
This one hour meeting is intended to offer a safe, open recovery space for women from marginalized communities and their allies. The goals of the meeting are to provide a space where differences are celebrated, marginalized voices are amplified, and each individual’s lived experience is respected while maintaining a focus on recovery. Attendees at We Belong participate with the understanding that growth is central not only to recovery, but to our human experience, and that growth often involves feelings of uncertainty or discomfort. We agree that diversity makes us stronger and we not only accept differences among us, but we celebrate and lift up those who are often marginalized in mainstream groups. Attendance at We Belong is open to all WFS members with the understanding that certain conditions are in place to demonstrate respect and safety for all attendees.
