Program: New Life Program (NLP)

The Women for Sobriety (WFS) New Life Program is a secular recovery program developed to support all women seeking help for problematic substance use. It was founded on the belief that women have unique challenges in overcoming addiction. The philosophy of the New Life Program is that our thoughts precede our actions. If our thoughts are positive, so are our actions. We believe we have the power to change our way of thinking. We take responsibility for ourselves and our choices. The 13 Acceptance Statements form the foundation of the New Life Program and help to guide our beliefs and actions.

The New Life Program offers a variety of recovery tools, meetings and peer support to guide women in developing coping skills which focus on emotional growth, spiritual growth, self-esteem and a healthy lifestyle. Sobriety is more than abstinence from a substance. It is a time for reflection, learning and self-discovery. By knowing ourselves better, we can overcome addiction.

Specific audiences: Educational Professionals

The Educational Professionals Affinity group is open to any WFS participant who is certified, licensed, employed or retired in the profession of education (PK-Post Graduate). This includes teachers, principals, central office leaders, paraprofessionals and all educational support personnel such as school psychologists, educational diagnosticians, speech pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, school-nurse teachers, school social workers and any other employee who works in the educational field. It is widely known that many educators turn to substance use as a coping mechanism for extreme, chronic stress and burnout associated with the profession. Educators also face a unique barrier to seeking help. They often find it difficult to seek treatment due to their high profile status as community role models, fearing the loss of job, certification or licensure. Participating in this private affinity group allows educators to share without disclosing their professional identity to the community as a whole, and to receive support from others who understand the demands of the profession. Led by trained facilitators, who are also educators, the Education Professionals Affinity group provides a safe and private space for educators to discuss recovery and New Life.
